“Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” 2 Timothy 2:22 (NIV)
Timeless truth for a time like this. Apostle Paul’s words to his young disciple Timothy provide a framework for Christian discipleship across cultures and generations. As Christians on college campuses, we want to thrive in our spiritual life through these “TO”s:
TO FLEE. College campus scene is full of temptations. Some are blatant, but many are subtle. Personal convictions and values are put to the test daily. As Joseph’s example in Genesis 39 testifies, sometimes the best way to fight temptations is to flee. But first, we need to learn why, what, where, when, and how.
TO PURSUE. We’re not just running away and burying our head in the sand. We’re pursuing what’s truly good — things that will last well beyond the college years. We’re making a positive impact through righteousness, faith, love, and peace. After all, we’re pursing to be like Christ in every aspect of life.
TOGETHER. You can’t do it alone. And so God calls us together to forge more than lifelong friendships. We’re building a new reality, a heavenly community for the world to see. And together, we can thrive as an outpost of heaven here and now.
