Why THRIVE?

Why THRIVE?  Because “just survive during college” isn’t working…

According to The Barna Group, 61% of today’s young adults who had been churched during their teen years stopped attending church during  college and “Only one-fifth of twentysomethings (20%) have maintained a level of spiritual activity consistent with their high school experiences.” (1)  We want to help turn this tide on every college campus.

In fact, college students have a long history of catalyzing spiritual revivals.  A short list of our spiritual legacy includes:

    • 1738 Evangelical Revival (Oxford University)
    • 1806 Haystack Prayer Revival (Williams College)
    • 1857-58 College Revivals (e.g., 1/2 of Yale students became Christian)
    • 1904 -05 Welsh Revival & Impact (e.g., Princeton, 1,000 out of 1,384 Princeton students attended weekly bible classes)
    • 1936 Wheaton College Revival
    • 1950 Campus Revivals & Para-church Movement
    • 1970 Asbury Revival

History tells us we’re due for another revival right about now…

What’s our excuse?  We have the same Gospel and Jesus wants to lead us here and now.  To be sure, there are new challenges on college campuses in this new millennium.  But instead of shrinking back, we’re straining forward together.  We’re praying THRIVE will be used to achieve God’s plan for this generation.

So why not thrive?  Join us and experience how God demands more than mere survival.  He wants us to THRIVE!

“Since Jesus’ time numberless bands of Christian youth have ‘turned the world upside down’ and thus led [humanity] forward in its struggle for freedom and deeper religious experience. The universities have always been breeding places for such groups.”   [Prof. Clarence P. Shedd, Yale Univ.]
